Welcome Letter from the President
Chenin Limback
MCCB President
Math and Science Division Chair
Gogebic Community College
Greetings, MCCB Members!
Happy start of the new school year! I am excited to begin my second year serving as your MCCB president.
For those who attended the fall 2025 conference at Kalamazoo Valley Community College, I hope you found it as inspiring and rewarding as I did, from stimulating discussions during breakout sessions to tours of the local campus and the KVCC College Food Innovation Center. Witnessing hands-on the work being done by KVCC, Valley Hub, Valley Food Share, and the Sustainable Horticulture Program to provide healthy, accessible food to students in need was both humbling and inspiring. A huge thank you to everyone who made the conference possible.
One of the most memorable experiences at the conference was a moment I think could only have happened with MCCB. Where else could we find a group of like-minded scientists, cameras out, collectively marveling at a garter snake wrestling to devour a struggling bullfrog?
Being lucky enough to capture this spectacle of nature was an experience only a group of biology enthusiasts could truly appreciate. If you missed it, ask about it at this year's fall conference!
Looking ahead, MCCB has some exciting updates in store, including a new website and updating our summer retreats to include mini conference components. Stay tuned for details, and a special thanks to everyone who provided feedback during the fall conference to help make these events more rewarding, accessible, and affordable for our members.
The upcoming Fall 2025 Conference will be held at Gogebic Community College in Ironwood, MI in the beautiful Upper Peninsula on October 3 and 4. While it’s a trek to the far western edge of the UP, it’s worth it! Ironwood is in the Central Time Zone, so you’ll gain an hour driving in. For those flying, there are direct flights from Chicago to our local airport, or to Escanaba and Marquette from Detroit. Ferries across Lake Michigan are another fun option! For details, please see the Conferences and Events tab on our website.
For those who would like to be more involved with MCCB, we’re always looking for future conference hosts and will be seeking a new President-Elect in the upcoming election cycle this summer. If you’re interested, visit the Service Opportunities link on our website.
While our core membership is strong, we’ve noticed a dip in active participants this past year, so please share MCCB’s exciting initiatives with colleagues and encourage them to join. We’re also exploring ways to extend membership and participation into other institutions.
Thank you for your dedication and involvement in MCCB. We couldn’t do it without you!
Sincerely,
Chenin Limback
MCCB President
